Nepal Army football club will play against the Sri Lankan Police club in the preliminary round of the AFC Cup 2021. The AFC Cup is the second largest club level competition after AFC Champions League organized by the Asian Football Confederation. After receiving the club license issued by the Asian Football Federation (AFC), Army will represent Nepal in the AFC Cup.
After winning the first round, Army will play the Indian side Bengaluru FC. If Nepal Army club wins in the second round, they will compete in the play-offs. The two teams that win the second round will compete in the playoff. The winning team will advance to the group stage.
Despite finishing second in the league last season Army club will represent Nepal in AFC Cup 2021. League Champion Machhindra was not able to play in the AFC Cup because they do not have AFC License.
South Asia’s Group D includes India’s Mohan Bagan, Bangladesh’s Bashundhara Kings, and Maldives’ Maziya. The fourth team for the group will be selected from the playoffs.
