
Church Boy’s United Clinches 14th Itahari Gold Cup Title in Thrilling Final
Church Boys United from Kathmandu secured victory in the 14th Itahari Gold Cup 2024 A.D. at the thrilling final match held at Itahari Stadium. They defeated Tribhuvan Army Club with a narrow 1-0 win, turning the tables after finishing as runners-up last year.
Rajesh Pariyar wrote his name by scoring the winning goal just four minutes into the game. He was also awarded the title of Man of the Match and a cash prize of 10,000 rupees. The ecstatic Church Boys United not only lifted the trophy but also received a generous cash prize of Rs 1 million for their outstanding performance.
Tribhuvan Army Club’s brave efforts earned them the runner-up position and a prize of Rs 500,000. Individual excellence was also recognized, with Prabesh Danuwar from Rastriya Jagriti Club named Best Player of the Tournament. He received 100,000 rupees.
Additionally, special awards were given to outstanding players in different categories, including Best Defender, Goalkeeper, Forward Player, and Midfielder.
Darshan Bhaktaraj of Church Boys United was honored as the Best Coach, highlighting the team’s collective success. The prize distribution ceremony, attended by esteemed dignitaries including Social Development Minister of Koshi Province Rajendra Karki and Mayor of Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City Hem Karna Poudel, added to the festive atmosphere.
The 14th Itahari Gold Cup, which kicked off on March 23, featured nine teams. Participants from India enriched the tournament with international competition.
