Nepali football sensation Sabitra Bhandari, known as Samba, has secured a contract with French top-division club En Avant Guingamp for the remainder of the season.

Following a successful medical examination in France, Bhandari finalized the deal with the club. Bhandari previously joined Israeli club Hapoel Raanana Women’s FC in June 2023 before making her recent move to Guingamp.

Her signing was confirmed by the club through a social media video showcasing Bhandari in the team’s jersey. The Nepali striker, who boasts 43 goals for her national team, is revered as one of South Asia’s finest forwards. She represents Nepal APF Football Club domestically.

Bhandari’s illustrious career includes winning India’s women’s I-League title with Sethu FC in 2018-2019 and with Gokulam Kerala in 2019-2020 and 2022-2023 seasons. She topped the last I-League season with 29 goals and holds the all-time leading scorer title in India’s premier division league, with 59 goals in three seasons.

The French Embassy in Kathmandu celebrated Bhandari’s achievement. They highlighted her journey to France and the empowerment of Nepali women in football.

Bhandari’s move to Guingamp marks a significant turn. Her stint with Hapoel Raanana was cut short due to uncertainties following the conflict in Israel.

En Avant Guingamp, based in Guingamp, competes in Division 1 Feminine. The team currently rankns 10th with two wins, two draws, and eight losses in the league, which comprises twelve teams.
