The West Asian Federation (WAFF) Women’s Championship, slated from February 19 to 29, 2024, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, boasts teams from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Guam, and Nepal. The draw divided the teams into Group A (Saudi Arabia, Guam, Lebanon, and Jordan) and Group B (Palestine, Nepal, Syria, and Iraq).
The tournament adopts a single-stage league system for the initial rounds, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals, culminating in the final match to determine the champion.
Group matches will unfold at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium. The finals will grace Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Sports City Stadium.
Fixtures of WAFF Women Championship 2024
- Opening day fixtures on February 19 include Guam vs. Lebanon and Saudi Arabia vs. Jordan.
- On February 20, Nepal clashes with Syria, followed by Palestine against Iraq.
- Matches continue on February 21 with Jordan against Guam and Lebanon against Saudi Arabia.
- Iraq takes on Nepal, and Syria faces Palestine on February 22.
- Jordan confronts Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia battles Guam on February 23.
- The group stage concludes on February 24 with Syria vs. Iraq and Palestine vs. Nepal.
After a brief respite on February 25 and 26, the semi-finals unfold on the 27th, culminating in the final on February 29. The tournament holds special significance as Saudi Arabia hosts it for the first time, with the debut of the Saudi women’s national team. Notably, Jordan leads with 5 titles in WAFF Women’s Championships, followed by the UAE with two.
Nepal and Guam join the tournament as guest teams. Nepal’s star player Sabitra recently signed with French team En Avant Guingamp and will join the Nepali team from France. Her return adds excitement and anticipation to Nepal’s preparations for the tournament. With Sabitra’s experience, Nepal aims to make a mark in the competition, fueled by unity and support from fans.
