Young Midfielder Laken Limbu Makes Striking Progress in Nepalese Football
A 20-year-old midfielder achieved a remarkable feat in his two-year professional football career. Starting with Three Star Club, a four-time top-tier champion in 2021, he has shown outstanding performance despite the club’s struggle this season.
Laken, born and raised in Singapore, pursued his football passion by joining F-17 Football Academy at the age of 12. He later switched to the Australian New Zealand Soccer Academy (ANZA Soccer Academy) before finally returning to Nepal in 2018. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, his participation in matches was limited, but he gained valuable experience in Nepalese football through various tournaments.
Joining Three Star Club was a dream come true for Laken, and he started his professional career with enthusiasm. In his first season, he played in eight matches, contributing one assist. The current season has been different as he has become a key player, starting in all matches. Laken has excelled in midfield, providing four assists and scoring three goals. He scored a spectacular long-range strike against Tribhuwan Army Club.
Despite not being initially selected for the Three Nations Cup, Laken remained focused and worked even harder to catch the coach’s attention. Eventually, he was called up to the preliminary squad for the SAFF Championship 2023 and made it to the final squad, fulfilling a dream.
Laken feels honored and proud to represent the National Team. He is also committed to making his country proud. The SAFF Championship 2023 will be held from June 21 to July 4 in Bengaluru, India. Nepal will play against West Asian team Kuwait in their opening match.
