Nepal Football Team’s first SAFF Championship Final
Coach Abdullah Almutairi was amused by the achievements of Nepali football in the year 2078 BS. In the same year, he made his debut as the coach of the Nepalese team and led Nepal to the championship final for the first time.
Nepal reached the final for the first time in the 28-year history of SAAF Championship Football. This is the highest competition of South Asian football in which Nepal has never reached the final before. But Gorkhalis managed to reach the final for the first time in its history after 28 years of its first edition in 1993.
In the first match of SAFF 2021, Nepal defeated host Maldives at their home ground. In the competition in which only five countries participated, Nepal had a good start by defeating Maldives 1-0 in the first match. Nepal defeated Sri Lanka 3-2 in their second match of and in their third match of the league stage, Nepal lost 1-0 to India.
Nepal’s first SAFF Championship final against India
In the decisive match to reach the final, Nepal held Bangladesh to a 1-1 draw in the league stage match. Nepal reached the historic final of SAAF by playing Bangladesh in turns, losing 3-0 to India in the final.
In SAFF Championship 2021, Nepal managed to score a total of 5 goals and conceded 7 goals. Before Coach Abdullah Almutairi had promised to take Nepal to the final of SAFF for the first time. Almutairi accomplished his promise taking Nepal to the final of SAFF Championship.
In 2078, coach Almutairi made the debut of 12 players. For the first time, Nepal reached the final of the SAAF Championship. Nepal also entered the third round of the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers and played a friendly match against a strong team like Iraq, and Thailand and also played two friendlies for the first time with the African country Mauritius.
