Wellington Phoenix FC have confirmed that striker Sabitra Bhandari Samba will miss the remainder of the season after scans revealed a serious knee injury.
An MRI has shown that Samba has suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) graft in her right knee. The injury is expected to sideline her for approximately nine to 12 months, bringing a premature end to her current campaign.
The injury occurred late in the second half of the Round 11 match against Brisbane Roar, when Roar goalkeeper Chloe Lincoln landed on Samba’s right leg as both players contested for the ball in the air.
Club medical staff have confirmed this is Samba’s second contact-related ACL injury. Due to the significant force involved in the incident, Wellington Phoenix stated that there was nothing that could have been done to prevent the injury.
The club expressed its support for Samba, backing her through surgery, rehabilitation, and recovery as she begins the long road back to full fitness.
Wellington Phoenix FC extended its best wishes to Samba, emphasizing confidence in her resilience and determination to return stronger.
